OCB Ocean Acidification PI Meeting
Ocean acidification scientists affiliated with academic and federal agencies will convene in Woods Hole, MA from March 22-24, 2011 for the first ocean acidification-only science and networking meeting in the nation.
Attendees will include newly funded OA researchers and investigators from disciplines not normally represented in the OA community as well as scientists already working on OA. Activities will include overview talks, synthesis discussions, breakout sessions, and plenary discussions designed to identify research commonalities, untapped resources, and collaborative opportunities.
Through this meeting, the OCB-OA subcommittee hopes to achieve these specific meeting goals:
1) Strengthen scientific collaboration and minimize duplication of research effort.
2) Build capacity for improving OA research.
3) Identify short and long-term research goals.
4) Promote effective data management.
5) Enhance communication with the public.
6) Solicit feedback to guide future OCB-OA activities.
Cyndy Chandler will present a talk on data management for OA research and a poster highlighting resources available from BCO-DMO. The talk will highlight:
1. best practices for general data management (metadata - early and often)
2. relevant references (EPOCA guide, GO-SHIP manual, ICES manuals, BCO-DMO Guidelines)
3. relevant repositories (R2R, BCO-DMO, CDIAC, OBIS-USA, GenBank)
4. and then some specifics: QA/QC, naming and unit conventions
5. and some big picture topics: local to global awareness of the value of data
